EXIT 239 — ABOUT

About the Author

A man seated on a barstool along an empty desert highway, facing away from the camera, toward a road sign reading Exit 239, Zzyzx Rd.

Kris Kidd has spent over twenty years working in Las Vegas entertainment, which mostly qualifies him to say, with some authority, that the desert makes people strange and nobody in this town will admit it happened to them personally.

He works on the business side of show business, which is a duller sentence than the job actually is, and which he'll happily explain to you at length if you ever ask, and which has nothing directly to do with any of this. Exit239 is the other thing. It doesn't sell anything. It's just dispatches from a place that isn't always the same place twice, written by a guy who's been paying close enough attention to the Strip for two decades to know the stories worth stealing weren't the ones on stage.

He lives in Las Vegas, which he moved to in 2005 and has not yet fully explained to himself.

If a story here felt a little too specific to be entirely made up, that's on purpose.
